My Dad's Colleague

Along our travels, we met one of my dad's old colleagues from grad school. He is currently a research professor at a university, but because of the stress it puts on his life, he enjoys retiring to his farm on Sundays to enhance his blueberry bushes. Often, he stays late into the night mixing and trying new combinations of fertilizers and soils to different strains of blueberries to achieve a better taste. He showed us around the farmland and other people's plots, and we were able to look at grapes, mulberries (which are more real than the ones at NCSSM) and engdu, which is a red-orange berry with sweet meat and an extremely sour pit. My sisters jokingly called it a grerry (grape/cherry) because of its color and taste.

Once a scientist, always a scientist.
